Thoroughbred Industry Employment Awards 2025
- The following terms and conditions set out the applicable terms and conditions for nomination for and participation in the Thoroughbred Industry Employment Awards 2025 (the “Awards”).
- By submitting a nomination, the nominator agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.
- The Awards categories are:
- The Newcomer Award;
- The Leadership Award;
- The Rider/Racing Groom Award;
- The Stud Staff Award;
- The Dedication Award; and
- The Community Award.

- Only stud and stable employees employed in Great Britain can be nominated for awards 1-5. Stable employees must be entered on the British Horseracing Authority Stable Employee Register. Any individual whom the nominator considers deserving can be nominated for the Community Award.
- Nominations open on Tuesday 20 August 2024 and close on Tuesday 5 November 2024. Nominations received after this time will not be accepted.
- All nominations must be submitted online at the Website.
- The Website is hosted by Godolphin Management Company Limited, not the British Horseracing Authority Limited (the “BHA”). By using the Website to submit a nomination form, the nominator hereby agrees to the Website’s Privacy Policy and how it processes personal data. Paragraphs 19 and 26 to 28 of these terms and conditions set out additional provisions in relation to the BHA’s use of personal data.
- All nominations must comply with the nomination guidelines which are available on the Website.
- Incomplete nominations, or nominations that have not followed the nomination guidelines will not be considered and will be ineligible for the Awards.
- The 10 best nominations for each Awards category will be chosen by two of the 12 judges (the “Short-List”) and the Short-List will be invited to take part in a telephone interview with two judges from the panel of independent judges (the “Panel”). The BHA will provide those nominees who are placed on the Short-List with dates, times and further details in respect of the telephone interview.
- Following the telephone interviews, the Panel will choose the best three nominees in respect of each Awards category (each a “Finalist”) and invite them to take part in a final judging morning on Monday 24 February 2025.
- The winner of each Award category will be chosen from the Finalists by the Panel and announced at the awards ceremony on Monday 24 February 2025.
- An overall award, the ‘Employee of the Year Award’ will be chosen by the Panel from the winners of each Award category and also announced on Monday 24 February 2025. The winners of the Newcomer Award and the Community Award are not eligible for this overall award.
- The prize money in respect of the winners and runners-up of the Awards and their stables will be paid by cheque after the Awards ceremony and divided as follows:
- £5,000 to each winner of the Leadership, the Rider/Racing Groom, the Stud Staff and the Dedication Awards with a further £5,000 to each winner’s stable/stud;
- £2,000 to each of the runners-up of the Leadership, the Rider/Racing Groom, the Stud Staff and the Dedication Awards with a further £2,000 to each runner-up’s stable/stud;
- £2,000 to the winner of the Newcomer Award with a further £2,000 to the winner’s stable/stud;
- £1,000 to the runner-up of the Newcomer Award with a further £1,000 to each runner-up’s stable/stud;
- £5,000 to the winner of the Community Award with a further £5,000 to the charity of the winner’s choice.
- £2,000 to each of the runners-up of the Community Award with a further £2,000 to the Charity of each runner-up’s choice.
- £10,000 to the winner of the Employee of the Year Award with a further £10,000 to the winner’s stable/stud.
- All prize money for training yards shall be distributed amongst stable employees on the stable employee register as at the date of the Awards ceremony in accordance with the normal practice for distributing money payable to stables (paragraphs 11-15 of the Stakes & Prize Money Code of the Rules of Racing).
- All prize money for Stud Farms will be distributed amongst the employees on the Stud Farm in employment as at the date of the Awards ceremony, and in accordance with the instructions of the stud owner which must be provided in writing to the BHA before it will be released. The stud owner will be required to confirm within six weeks that the prize money has been distributed accordingly.
- The chosen charity recipient of prize money relating to the Community Award is subject to the approval of the BHA (at its discretion). The winner and runners-up must send the name of their chosen charity to the BHA before the funds will be released. In the event that the BHA does not approve of the charity, the winner or runner-up will be asked to select a different charity, which is again subject to the BHA’s approval.
- Prize money paid to stables and distributed in accordance with paragraph 16 and 17 above may be subject to applicable taxes and deductions.
- The BHA may wish to publicise the Awards, including the Short-List, the Finalists and the eventual winners. Should any nominee wish to not be part of this publicity, they should inform the BHA of this as early as possible and withdraw from the process. Should the BHA wish to use any other personal data in any publication regarding the Awards, it shall contact the relevant persons to obtain consent to do so.
- All those who make the Short-List of 10 for each category following the first round in the judging process, but do not progress to the final three will also receive £250 each in recognition of their achievement.
- There is no alternative prize available.
- The judges’ and Panel’s decisions are final.
- Former winners of the ‘Employee of the Year Award’ are not eligible to be nominated for the Awards.
- Former Finalists are able to be nominated for the Awards, but only in an alternative category.
- The Awards are run by British Horseracing Authority Limited of Holborn Gate, 26 Southampton Buildings, London, WC2A 1AN.
- The BHA has limited the personal information that we collect to the information that is necessary for administration of the Awards. The BHA shall contact any nominee who makes the Short-List, to inform them of the BHA’s processing of their personal data. Within this communication, the BHA shall make clear to the nominee that:
- the nominee’s personal data is being processed only in regard to the Awards and only in line with the BHA’s Privacy Notice which shall be provided to the nominee at this time;
- the nominee may elect to withdraw their nomination (by contacting awards@britishhorseracing.com), in which case all the nominee’s personal data held in connection with the Awards shall be deleted and the nominee shall no longer be considered for any Award or included in any publication regarding the Awards; and
- should the nominee not contact the BHA to request otherwise, the BHA may publicise the nominee’s name, job and their nomination or short-listing for one of the Awards on the Website, on the BHA’s websites and on the Racing Post website.
- The BHA will delete the personal data of any nominee who is not chosen for the Short-List but may send a certificate to these nominees acknowledging that they were nominated for the award.
- By submitting a nomination on the Website, the nominator consents to:
- the BHA informing any nominee who makes the Long-List of the source of their nomination (i.e. who nominated them); and
- the BHA informing any nominee who makes the Long-List that the nominator provided certain personal data to the BHA in order to nominate them.
- The BHA will process personal data of nominees and nominators in the delivery of the Thoroughbred Industry Employment Awards in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation. The BHA will gather personal data from nominators, nominees and other sources such as employers, colleagues and the BHA’s racing administration systems. This personal data will be processed for the purpose of considering and adjudicating nominations and the administration of the Awards. These terms and conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with laws of England and Wales and nominators and nominees hereby submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts in connection with any legal dispute that may arise regarding any aspect of the Awards or these terms and conditions.
